FOSTERING UNDERSTANDING IN OUR COMMUNITY
BATTLING WHILE BLACK
Perspectives of Black service members during WWII
ABOUT THE EVENT

. . . “The United States and segregated America, at the time, would have eaten their words in utter disbelief. We are Black, and we all went in — and came out — fighting.”

Join us to learn from Major General (Retired) Peter J. Gravett’s and his latest book, Battling While Black. His book takes readers on an eye-opening, thought-provoking journey back to war-torn WWII Europe, where four heroic, all-Black military units epically battled the Nazi regime, despite the challenges of hailing from their own segregated America.
Major General Gravett will also touch on his own military career as the first Black Major General in the U.S. Army National Guard and how these brave, all-Black units inspired his service.

Bringing historical context, we'll have local historian Erik Brun. Don't miss it!
