Alephonsion Deng
Alephonsion was seven years old when his village in Southern Sudan was attacked. He fled into the night without food, water, shoes, or parents and crossed a thousand miles of war-torn territory. Five years later he reached Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya and began his education. In 2001 the U.S. Government welcomed Alephonsion to America as one of the Lost Boys of Sudan.
Alephonsion’s memoirs have won many awards, including the Christopher. He has spoken to hundreds of universities, clubs, and organizations to bring awareness to the world about what is going on in his country by sharing his extraordinary story of survival.

Dr. Stephen Lloyd-Moffett
A professor of Comparative Religion at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, an occasional columnist for the Tribune, and advocate for religious dialogue. An internationally-known scholar of Religious Studies, Dr. Lloyd-Moffett has given over 100 local lectures on Islam since his arrival in the area in 2005. He is the past recipient of the College of Liberal Arts teaching award and the Top 20 Under 40 award from the San Luis Obispo Tribune.
